Finances
Continuing education programs at the Postgraduate Center are designed as non-degree programs and support both personal and professional development . As such, they are fee-based—priced transparently and in line with the actual costs of each program.
This structure enables excellent teaching quality, strong practical orientation, individualized support, and access to a high-performing network. In short: your investment delivers tangible value for your career, skills development, and personal growth—flexible, focused, and at a high academic level.
Tuition Fee
You can find the amount of your tuition fee on the respective program page and directly in the application form 1. Please refer to our General Terms and Conditions (GTC) for the applicable payment terms.
You will receive your invoice by email from the Postgraduate Center’s Finance Department. Please transfer the amount only after receiving the invoice and be sure to include the invoice number as the payment reference so we can allocate your payment correctly.
ÖH Fee (Student Union Fee)
In the winter semester 2026/27, the ÖH fee is € 26.20. Of this amount, € 0.70 is used for the ÖH accident and liability insurance; the remainder goes to the federal and local student union bodies. As a student of the University of Vienna—including in continuing education programs—you are required to register for continuation of studies every semester.
Special Notes for Students with Multiple Enrollments
If you are admitted to another degree program at the University of Vienna in addition to your continuing education program, you only need to pay the ÖH fee once per semester. If you have accidentally paid the ÖH fee twice, you can request a refund. You can submit an application for a waiver and/or refund via the Servicedesk of the Teaching Affairs and Student Services.
Tolerance semesters
To use additional semesters beyond the standard program duration, the University’s regulations apply. If you do not complete your continuing education program within the prescribed duration, you may be granted grace semesters free of charge.
- For continuing education programs comprising up to 60 ECTS credits, one tolerance semester is granted free of charge.
- For continuing education programs comprising 90 to 180 ECTS credits, two tolerance semesters are granted free of charge.
For each additional semester, an extra tuition fee (including the ÖH fee) of currently € 410 is charged. Failure to pay the full amount by the deadline will result in the registration for continuation of studies becoming invalid within the meaning of Section 62 of the Universities Act (as amended).
Please note that tuition fee obligations may also arise from other studies at the University of Vienna—for example, if you are enrolled in another program that exceeds its prescribed duration (including grace semesters). These fees must also be paid in full and on time. Otherwise, your continuation of studies will lapse and you will be deregistered from your studies.

Expenses for your professional education and training can be claimed as work-related expenses in your employee tax assessment (Arbeitnehmerveranlagung). A prerequisite is that you paid income tax (Lohnsteuer) in the relevant calendar year.
Both the tuition/program fee and all costs associated with this postgraduate training (e.g., textbooks, work materials, travel to the course location, etc.) are tax-deductible as work-related expenses. In general, you must be able to substantiate work-related expenses with invoices, a mileage log, etc. These documents must be retained for seven years, but they do not need to be attached to your tax return.
For details on the employee tax assessment, please contact your local tax office.
