Individual Psychology and Self Psychology
Understanding and supporting people in their social context
The master’s program in “Individual Psychology and Self Psychology” combines psychoanalytic-psychodynamic theory, diagnostic skills, psychotherapeutic treatment techniques, and psychotherapy research with a structured practical training component.
Individual Psychology and Self Psychology are characterized by a distinctive view of human nature that always considers the individual within a social context. In the tradition of Alfred Adler, the focus is on how people find their place in relationships and society, with feelings of inferiority and a sense of belonging playing a central role. Heinz Kohut’s Self Psychology emphasizes the development of healthy self-esteem. Relationship work within a psychotherapeutic framework opens up possibilities for processes of change and development. The psychoanalytic-psychodynamic exploration of unconscious processes connects both approaches.
